Mother's Day is always a super-special occasion, but the gift of a lottery ticket turned into an extraordinary life-changing moment for Vielka Roman of Autryville, North Carolina.
As a way of saying thank you for always being there, Roman received a Carolina Cash 5 ticket as a gift from her sister, Neris and the ticket turned out to be a $1.3 million jackpot winner.
"I just can't believe it," said Roman. "I'm still in shock."
"Carolina Cash 5 is her favourite game," said Neris. "So I bought her the lucky ticket as a Mother's Day present."
Roman forgot to check the lottery results on Sunday and only remembered to check it once she had set off in the car for a short break away with her fiancé Al the following day.
"I was looking at the app on the phone, and I saw confetti burst," said Al. "I had to check the numbers five times to make sure they were real."
After whoops of joy and a few minutes of silence, the couple turned the car around right away and headed to lottery headquarters in Raleigh to claim her prize, picking Roman's sister up enroute.
"We are very close," said Roman. "She was the first person I called!"
"I think everyone would like to have a sister like her," said Neris. "She has always been there for me. And when she won, she said to me, 'If I win, then you also win.'"
Roman who took home $958,078 plans to make life comfortable by paying off the house and her car.
"We just moved here, just bought a house," said Roman. "It will be nice to have room to breathe. Neris can have more time to plant in her garden. We will be able to spend more time with each other as a family."
